1% for the Planet
Are you a business owner prepared to give 1% for the planet?
What is 1% for the Planet?
1% for the Planet is a global network of businesses, individuals and environmental partners committed to supporting our planet’s most pressing environmental concerns.
It was founded to prevent businesses ‘greenwashing’ their environmental commitments. 1% for the Planet certification is recognised around the world, demonstrating reputable giving and environmental accountability.
It’s a model that easily enables you, a business owner, to give philanthropic support to the issues you care most about, at a scale that is appropriate to the size of your business. Your 1% is also tax deductible.
Join a network that exemplifies the power of collective action: when we all work together across the globe, 1% can really add up for the benefit of our planet.
How is the Conservation Ecology Centre involved?
The Conservation Ecology Centre (CEC) is listed as an ‘environmental partner’ with 1% for the Planet.
If your business signs up as a 1% member, you can choose the CEC as your environmental partner and 1% of your annual sales will go directly to protecting wildlife and wild places in the Otways and beyond. You can keep track of the projects we have underway here at the CEC by subscribing to our quarterly update at the very bottom of this page.
How do I sign up to become a 1% for the Planet member and support the CEC?
You can join 1% for the Planet and support the CEC via their website, where you will also find more information: onepercentfortheplanet.org
If you have any questions relating to the CEC and the work we do, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Andrea at andrea@conservationecologycentre.org
Here’s what a local business owner and 1% supporting member had to say:
Lili and Xavier at Chocolate Gannets in Apollo Bay
“We joined 1% for the Planet because we feel a responsibility towards our planet and its environment. We want to do more to help take care of it, and joining an organisation like 1% for the Planet enables us to support this cause while doing what we do best as business owners. While we are not environmentalists or conservationists ourselves, we recognise that by running our business to the best of our ability, we can then contribute to funding the invaluable work of these professionals.
In addition to supporting a worthy cause, joining 1% for the Planet sends a strong signal to our guests and stakeholders that our values are genuine and our commitments are audited. We honestly cannot say it any better than Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia and 1% for the Planet: “This is not philanthropy. This should be a cost of doing business. It’s paying rent for our use of the planet”.
